Holland America Joins with U.S. Nat’l Park Service

to produce a “Glacier Bay Ranger Podcast Anthology”

The headline above caught my eye because I have been to Glacier Bay Alaska and the U.S. Park Service Rangers came on board and did some narration while we were in Glacier Bay.  This story is about Holland America and the Rangers creating a pod-cast series about Glacier Bay and the Huna tribe of Indians that populated, and still populate the area.  I was fortunate enough to sit in on a discussion while we were on our cruise with one of the Huna Elders and listen to some of her tales.  It was very enlightening and entertaining.

I put the link to the article above so you can read the whole thing for yourself, but the reason I blogged about this was the fact that your vacation can also be extremely informative and entertaining if you take advantage of the things that are offered.  According to the article, all 16 pod-casts can be downloaded and listened to on an iPod or a personal MP3 player.  They also have pre-loaded iPods available onboard.

I personally would suggest downloading them and even listening to them before hand, because if you’ve never been to Glacier Bay Alaska before, you’re in for a jaw-dropping experience, and you might not pay much attention to what you are listening to, especially if you are trying to take pictures at the same time.  The picture at the top of this blog comes from Glacier Bay and it was probably one of the most memorable places I have ever been.

So the next time you take a cruise, check with the cruise director to see if items like this are available for you to use while you’re onboard.  When you book your cruise with me or your own personal travel agent, ask us to find out if this is available.  If there are extras like this, I will always suggest them to you when you book a cruise with me.

Happy sailing!

Traveling and Being Sick

Getting the flu or severe cold while traveling sucks. Flues and colds are viruses and there's not much you can do to prevent them, so the best thing to do is take something to lessen the impact

Why I love Alaskan Cruises

Find a travel agent who specializes in where you are going. They will know all the ins and outs about your destination.

My “Hello World” Post

Welcome to my travel blog.  For what it’s worth, I’m terrible at writing… well, not so much writing as I am disciplining myself to write.  I believe that I write well, but not often enough.  So my goal with this blog is to write, at least once a week, or possibly even once a day, but often enough to make this interesting to someone besides myself.

I will post about my travels, travel experiences, pictures from my travels (like the one at the top of this page – Glacier Bay, Alaska, September 2010), things I find in other blogs about travel, and probably some miscellaneous stuff from time to time also.  A couple hundred words at a time, or more, I guess.  I’ve been many places, and will tell about recent and past places as well.  I’ll try and post some of the older pictures as well, however, I found out my scanner is creating lines in my scans, so that probably won’t be until I get a new scanner.

If you have any comments, thoughts, ideas, etc. I would love to hear them.  Please feel free to comment as often as you like.  Oh, and you can also follow my postings on Twitter at @MyOysterTravel.

See you on the road!
